Intelligence is an essential element of an ideal element of a detective. Intelligence not only assists a detective to start a conversation with a suspect, but also enables the detective to identify crucial information that enhances communication. In most cases, suspects do not welcome detectives into conversations when visited by detectives at their homes.
This is a major challenge to the detectives especially when engaging rough and unwelcoming suspects (Shipley and Reeve, p.34). Engaging the suspects can alter the digital evidence being sought after by the detective. For instance, the suspect may not allow the detective to explore their digital electronic devices such computers. Thereafter, the suspects might conceal or destroy the digital evidence that could lead to their prosecution (Nelson et al, p.27)

With three computers, the chances are pretty good that at least one of them will be turned on and one of them will be turned off. It is highly risky for a detective to turn on a powered since it is not advisable for the detective to collect digital evidence at the scene. Furthermore, some devices could be transmitting data when they are switched on. The National Institute of Justice (2008, p.43) states that the only information that the detective should take from the scene is the status of the scene such as photographs, videos, and notes of the scene. On the hand, the detective should turn of the devices because the devices could be damaged on their movement to a digital evidence collection and analysis lab. The labs have data recovery tools that can retrieve data from the electronic devices and create a disk image of the evidence (Mohay, p.5). Moreover, a detective should carry all the devices that could provide digital evidence (The National Institute of Justice, p.24). Contemporary laws may hinder detectives from carrying electronic devices away from the scene, but specific clauses allow them to do so. Such incidences are common in the current newscasts.
