Veterans of foreign wars are not the only people affected by PTSD. Anyone who has witnessed a traumatic event or natural disaster can develop it. For example, people who were involved in 9/11, who saw the disaster, and who lost relatives or friends could have been diagnosed with PTSD (Board, A.D.A.M. Editorial). People who have had a history trauma have an increased risk of getting PTSD after a recent traumatic event. Post-traumatic stress disorder can affect people of any age, gender or culture. Children may be more vulnerable to PTSD than adults who have experienced the same stress or trauma (Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand).
